Meet the people behind the AlekSIS project
Our team

AlekSIS is developed by a group of dedicated people with different expertises. Together, they work on improving and maintainig the AlekSIS core and official apps.

Besides developing the AlekSIS software, the promotion of young developers is an important priority of the team. Hence, very young students are regular team members and are fostered as such.

Dominik George

Dominik George

Product Owner
Lives in Bonn, Germany

Dominik George has been involved in free open source software and teaching sind 2004 and has conceived digitisation projects starting as a student in 9th grade. He is now an experienced software developer and system administrator and continues working with and mentoring young FOSS contributors, mostly under the umbrella of Teckids e.V..

For AlekSIS, he works with schools to prioritise development tasks and represents the project at conferences.

Frank Poetzsch-Heffter

Frank Poetzsch-Heffter

Product Owner
Lives in Lübeck, Germany

Frank Poetzsch-Heffter, deputy headmaster at the Katharineum zu Lübeck, has been pursuing the goal of operating school IT systems on the basis of free software for twenty years. With AlekSIS, he wants to extend this claim to the administrative processes in the school.

On the one hand, he sees his task in linking school practice with questions of software development, and he is also interested in introducing interested students to the project.

Jonathan Weth

Jonathan Weth

Lead Developer / Maintainer
Lives in Lübeck, Germany

Jonathan Weth is a high school graduate from Lübeck in the North of Germany. As one of the initiators of the AlekSIS project and one of its predecessors, he’s involved in the AlekSIS development from the beginning. He is the lead developer of the project and is responsible for quality assurance and managing the development process.

In addition to software development, his interests are stage technology, literature and politics.

Julian Leucker

Julian Leucker

Frontend Developer
Lives in Vienna, Austria

Julian Leucker is currently in his second semester studying Software Engineering at the TU Vienna. He attended school at Katharineum zu Lübeck and worked on the AlekSIS predecessor SchoolApps. In AlekSIS, he is mainly concerned with making the user interface as comfortable as possible, as it is important to him to develop software that is as inclusive as possible for all users.

He also enjoys programming small projects, photography and listening to music.

Hangzhi Yu

Hangzhi Yu

Full-Stack Developer
Lives in Berlin, Germany

Hangzhi Yu is currently doing his federal voluntary service at a Berlin NGO. He joined AlekSIS after he started developing software in one of the predecessor projects during his school days at the Katharineum in Lübeck and experienced in practice what an important contrbution Free Software can make to good education. He is currently involved in the AlekSIS project as a full-stack developer and is particularly interested in making the user experience more intuitive and thus making everyday life in schools more comfortable.

Besides software development, he is politically active and interested in where our society is heading and what influence we can have on it.

Tom Teichler

Tom Teichler

DevOps Engineer
Lives in Wermelskirchen, Germany
Tom Teichler is an apprentice systems engineer, who has been involved in the development of AlekSIS and one of its predecessors. He works as a DevOps engineer and also takes care of our pilot schools.

Lukas Weichelt

Lukas Weichelt

Junior Developer
Lives in Bad Honnef, Germany
Lukas Weichelt is a junior developer who joined the AlekSIS team in October 2021. He often takes over all kinds of tasks, like testing the installation manual, and regularly visits exhibitions to promote AlekSIS.
Jonathan Krüger

Jonathan Krüger

Junior Developer
Lives in Bonn, Germany

Jonathan has become aware of free software with 11 years through a summer camp of Teckids e.V., and has gained interest in several different projects since that.

One of these projects is AlekSIS, which fascinates him especially for the possibility to participate in the digitisation of schools as a student.
