Summer development sprint in Lübeck
Traditionally, the AlekSIS team meets every year for a summer development sprint in the beautiful Hanseatic city of Lübeck to work on the further development of AlekSIS at the Katharineum zu Lübeck. A large part of the AlekSIS team travelled from all over Germany and Austria to work on important features and improvements for our pilot schools from 16th to 18th July 2024. In particular, the focus was on the digital class register, which some pilot schools, Katharineum zu Lübeck and Herman-Nohl-Schule want to go live with in the next school year. For this, the team received feedback from teachers at both schools and implemented it directly.
Another important focus was on the calendar system: among other things, the querying of events from the database has been greatly accelerated by installing a specialised PostgreSQL extension. In addition, the development of CalDAV and CardDAV support has made great progress, so that in future events can be integrated directly into your own calendar via CalDAV.
Of course, a sprint is also about having fun, and the team did just that during the evening program. As well as going to restaurants, also a bar was visited and toasted the new AlekSIS mascot, the Aleksolotl. As a surprise for the team, there were also Aleksolotl stickers and small Aleksolotls made of laser-engraved wood, which could be easily attached to wine glasses.
